Child custody dispute leads to mother’s arrest

On Behalf of | Sep 28, 2017 | Child Custody |

When two Pennsylvania parents are unable to see eye-to-eye over matters involving the care and custody of a shared child, it is important that both sides take a reasonable and measured approach. Allowing emotions to overwhelm reason can lead to serious negative outcomes. An example is found in the recent arrest of a mother who tried to flee with her child after a child custody battle.

In an attempt to avoid complying with a court order, the mother made the decision to take her toddler and leave their state of residence. She traveled to multiple areas before settling in the Pacific Northwest. There, she was able to find work and housing that would allow her to largely live under the radar.

After the case was featured on a recent episode of a TV show called “The Hunt with John Walsh,” tips from callers led authorities to the woman’s location. Law enforcement officers were able to locate the mother and 4-year-old boy. The woman was taken into custody, and the child was returned to the care of his father.

During a child custody dispute in Pennsylvania or any other state, rash decisions such as the one discussed here are never in a parent’s best interest. In fact, these types of actions can lead to the complete elimination of all parental rights. Staying in place and fighting for a child custody determination that is acceptable to all parties is always preferable to fleeing and living in constant fear of being discovered.
