Pennsylvania has guidelines for determining how much support should be paid in Child Support cases and Spousal Support cases.
The laws involved with regard to these issues can be found in the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure §1910.1 through 1910.50. If you look at these rules you will see that in many circumstances the rules can become complicated at best. Custody schedules, amount of monthly mortgage payments; medical expenses; earning capacity and union dues are only a few of the issues that become relevant in determining the amount of support that is required under the Pennsylvania Guidelines for Child Support.
At a minimum you will need to have your past tax returns and current income information. A net income is figured out for the parties using these pieces of information. Based on the issues specific to your case a final support number will be determined.
It is important to consult with an attorney prior to going to a support hearing. There are many factors that may be considered in your case. An experienced attorney can discuss these factors with you and give you proper advice on how to proceed.
