ESTATE ADMINISTRATION/PROBATE
Estate Administration, also known as probate, is the process of gathering a decedent's assets and other property, paying debts and obligations, expenses, preparing taxes, and carrying out the wishes of the decedent for distribution of assets to the rightful heirs through a will.
If there is no will then the estate administration becomes more difficult. The county Register of Wills chooses an "administrator," usually a family member or close friend, who then works with a lawyer to make sure the necessary and stringent legal requirements are followed.
A lawyer experienced in estate law should guide the process with an expertise that the non-lawyer cannot. At the Family Legal Center, we handle everything from placing the required creditor advertising to collecting assets and accounting for them, to paying bills, filing taxes and distributing assets to beneficiaries.
We ease the process so that the executor has little to do but can feel secure that the estate is being executed or processed correctly. We are proud to say that we assure peace of mind even during the grieving period and through mourning the loss of a loved one.

ESTATE PLANNING
The Estate Planning process should be developed to meet each person's individual needs. The preparation of your will, Living Will, Power of Attorney and other estate planning documents should be done by an experienced practitioner. Estate Planning is essential for the well being and peace of mind for your family.
.
WILLS
Your WILL is assurance that personal assets and possessions will be distributed to whom you desire upon your death. It may also provide immediate guardianship for your children and include tax planning strategies for you and your family. Without a Will you will be leaving your family with unnecessary confusion at a very difficult time. We guide you step by step through the estate planning process so you will be comfortable with these important decisions.
.
POWERS OF ATTORNEY
Few people realize the magnitude of financial and personal management problems that can result if a disability should occur. A POWER OF ATTORNEY gives authority to an agent to carry out predetermined desires should this unexpected event occur. Three major areas to consider for inclusion in a Durable Power of Attorney are Financial Management, Personal Care and Health Care Decisions.
.
LIVING WILL
A LIVING WILL gives you the opportunity to determine what medical treatment you are to receive in the event that you should become terminally ill and permanently unconscience. In Pennsylvania you have the legal and ethical right to make these determinations while you are able to do so. If others do not know your wishes about treatment, you may receive treatments that you do not want. You should plan ahead for the time when you cannot make decisions about your medical treatment.
DIVOVRCE MEDIATION
Divorce Mediation has become a popular way to address a pending divorce. Attorney Jullie Colton is trained in the mediation process and offers clients of Family Legal Center, LLC an alternative to the usual adversarial process of divorce.
SPECIAL NEEDS TRUSTS
Approximately 43 million Americans have one or more physical or mental disabilities. Many of these people are receiving means tested public benefits such as SSI, Mediciad, Section 8 housing, and other benfits under Federal or State programs.
Because these benfits are means tested persons with disabilities are ineligable for these benefits if their income and assets are above a certain level. SPECIAL NEEDS TRUSTS permit diabled persons to receive inheritances, equitable distribution, child support and personal injury settlements while keeping their public benefits.
Family Legal Center, LLC is experienced in prepareing and explaining to their clients the need for and the admistration of such trusts. Contact Attorney Laura Cohen to learn more about Special Needs Trusts today. laura@familylegalcenter.com

COLLABORATIVE FAMILY LAW
Collaborative Law is a new option for divorcing couples to resolve disputes respectfully and equitably without going to court. The goal of collaborative practice is to help divorcing and separating couples to focus on their most important goals, especially children, throughout the divorce process. The end result is a more efficient, targeted andproductive way ti resolve disputes.
In collaborative practice, you and your spouse agree not to go to court. This gives you and your spouse control of the process and outcome versus litigation, where a judge makes the final decision. Instead of the win-lose court setting, the collaborative team ensures that both spouses work with each other, not against each other, towards mutually beneficial solutions for critical issues.
One barrier in litigation is a lack of effective communication between spouses. In the collaborative process, spouses learn a framework for effectively communicating their concerns and goals.
